Missions 101...Day 1

Our team met up in the FBC Foyer around 4 pm. From this point, each person began lugging the donations down to the bus and the cars. These donations were collected from students during W.O.W. There was an incredible amount of clothes, food, hygiene products, and other accesories to share with the people at the Dorcas House.

After leaving FBC, we checked into our hotel for the weekend. We spent just enough time to drop off our bags and then headed to the Dorcas House. This time the students unloaded the donations for the last time into the shelter.

Once this was complete, it was time for the tour. Sandra, the facilties manager, showed us around the place. Sandra shared with our team a bit of her story. She actually walked away from an abusive relationship and was a recipient of the Dorcas House's services. She graduated the program and a door opened for employment within the organization. She now lives on site to serve the women and children in residence.

Our group saw the in-take, offices, dining hall, daycare, chapel, lounge, library, and dorms. The students also had the privilege to interact with a few moms and kids. Our group saw one lady with a small child and a broken arm. Unfortunately, someone broke her arm for her. She seemed to be new to the program.

For supper, we went downtown to the Rivermarket. After supper, we took a trolley ride around Little Rock and North Little Rock. Next, it was a look at the Imax's Episphere. It consisted of a brief glance into our solar system. The beauty of it all is that God specially created and designed it all. The universe is vast and beyond our imagination. God is bigger than the universe. As big as God is, He still wants a relationship with us! It is from a relationship with God that we receive the power to love others.

The night ended with our Missions Debriefing. Our team piled into one room to look into the Word, journal, and pray. Our passage was Acts 9:36-42, which is the story of Dorcas. Dorcas was a woman of compassion who ALWAYS did good and helped the poor. Our students will follow in these footsteps over the next two days. Thank-you for the privilege of sharing in the experience with them!
