The final day of camp consisted of driving. Our group loaded up and pulled out of Orange Beach at midnight. We got back on the road and did it all over again. Most of the students slept a majority of the way, which makes the journey home seem quicker. We pulled into FBC around 10:20 am and everyone went home. Needless to say we were all exhausted.
In 2006 and 2007, our group did Student Life and Big Stuf Camps respectively at the beach. These are incredible, big, flashy camps, but we wanted to shift gears this year. In 2008, we wanted it to be just us so that we could "simply" the event. Here were the advantages of it just being us:
#1) Everything could be geared specifically to Middle Schoolers.
#2) Each setting could be focused on our theme.
#3) The worship leaders could interact one on one with students.
#4) Community could be built among our students more effectively.
#5) Our ministry could save our budget and families money.
Just in case anyone was wondering; here is the breakdown of our theme. It was "The Foundation." We pinpointed elements that are foundational to our faith. Our building blocks were: God, Prayer, Salvation, Giving, Baptism, and Bible.
We had students make decisions in a variety of ways including steps of learning, salvation, and baptism. Thanks for entrusting us with your kids. We consider it a privilege, an honor, and a huge responsibility!
