The Edge

We had a great time at the Edge this year.

Our kids worked very hard on our Middle School Space. The best time of all is when we stopped working and focused on spiritual development and leadership.

We spent a great deal of time walking the kids through sharing their stories. This was followed up by exploring things that student leaders do.

May God rise up next generation leaders!

Missions 101

Here's some information on Missions 101. Registration forms are available...

The 4th annual “Missions 101” is just around the corner. It is happening on June 28-30. This mission trip is just for 6th & 7th graders. Over the past couple of years our ministry has partnered with the Compassion Center, the Dorcas House, and Heifer International for this project. It is time to do something a little different this go around! This experience will give you a taste of missions and service that will change your life!

Our team will be partnering with First Corinthians Baptist Church in North Little Rock. First Corinthians Baptist Church is a small church that does not have many resources. God is going to give our group the opportunity to share with them. We will be serving at their church working on their building in a variety of ways.

In the evening we’ll go to supper, do activities, return to our hotel, and have a Missions Debriefing. The debrief will be a time to talk about the day, prepare for tomorrow, and look at what God’s Word says about missions.

The cost is $30.00 per student. All participants must complete and turn in a FBC Medical Release Form.

There is limited space and the deadline to sign-up is June 3rd or until capacity is reached. We are going to have a great time together with Missions 101. It is important to know up front...we are there to serve. If you do not want to serve...then sit this trip out on the sidelines. There are plenty of other events to attend.

Mountain Camp

Here's some information on Mountain Camp. Registration forms will are available this Sunday...

What is Mountain Camp?
What are you going to do this summer? You can waste away your days or come with us and have a blast! This year our group will be retreating together in the Ozark Mountains. You don’t want to miss it!

When is Mountain Camp?
It’s on July 24-27, which is Friday through Monday. Our group will exit Benton mid-morning and return to Benton in the afternoon.

Where will we be staying?
Our group will be staying in the Big Creek Lodge at the Shepherd of the Ozarks. It is a massive lodge right next to a natural swimming hole and recreation field. It has a large deck with picnic tables, which provides a great place to eat and to enjoy the view. The inside is made with log beams, wood floors, along with a kitchen, meeting room, and sleeping areas. Shepherd of the Ozarks is about 3 1/2 hours from Benton.

What will we be doing?
Mountain Camp is going to give you the chance to connect with God and friends from our Middle School Ministry. Students will be placed into groups led by an adult of the same gender. Each group will spend time together in recreation, quiet time, prayer, and Bible study. Each day we will set aside special times to worship God together. We will also be enjoying many activities such as: hiking, exploring, horseback riding, swimming, floating, volleyball, frisbee golf, a ropes course, and wilderness paintball. There is an additional cost for optional activities. After you register, you will have a chance to choose an activity.

How do I sign-up?
The cost is $175.00 per person, which covers transportation, lodging, meals, supplies, and several activities. Students will also be responsible for a total of two meals during travel to camp. The deadline to register for camp is June 3rd or until capacity is reached. A $75.00 nonrefundable deposit and registration forms are due to secure a spot on this date. Then, on July 5th, the nonrefundable balance of $100.00 is due along with any activity fees. The registration fee will increase to $200.00 per person after June 3rd. All signees will receive an information letter concerning camp after the first deadline.

When are the rules for Mountain Camp?
We do have rules that everyone must obey. For example, we do not mess with other people’s stuff. We do not swim or hike without an adult leader. Boys and girls do not go to each others rooms. Our rules for Mountain Camp will help us to honor God and to keep everyone safe.

Reflection #1

We are kicking-off a two week series entitled: Reflection. Our focus will be talking about the masks that we all wear. Most of us know we can’t be perfect at everything, but we do have certain areas where we want to appear like we are. We want to be desirable and valued. We want to feel we are worth something. B ut in order to get those things, we feel the need to cover up who we really are. This week we will encourage kids to begin to allow others to see him or her for who they really are and stop hiding behind masks.

Easter

This Sunday we will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. There will be no Sunday School or Sunday Night gatherings. There will, however, be two services available:

1st: 9:00 AM
2nd: 10:30 AM

Hope to see you there. Bring someone along with you this Sunday. It is a great time to ask!

The Cross

We will be wrapping up our series on the Cross this week in Common Ground. Last week we talked about all of the things that Jesus faced before and during the cross. This week we will be viewing a section of "The Gospel of John," which will bring last week's talk to a new level.

Space Update

The Middle School Ministry Space is coming along. The pictures posted awhile back on this site were of the large group room. This area is now almost complete. It is wired, cooled/heated, painted, and carpeted. We are now awaiting the installation of A/V equipment. This will be an incredible addition to the church and the Middle School Ministry. Once it is completed, we will post a few pics of the area. The classrooms and hallways will be tackled by our Edge team later this month.

The Edge

It is time for the 2nd annual Edge! The Edge is something very special that we started last year. Why the Edge? It will give students the chance to serve, to deepen faith, and to develop leadership skills. In 2008, our group served supper at the Salvation Army and spent time in Bible study talking about student leaders.

So, what about 2009? This year we will do something a bit different. This year’s Edge team will be on campus right here at FBC. If a student is involved in the Edge, they will be painting in the Middle School Ministry Space. They will be honoring God and giving back to the church and the ministry that cares so much for them. We will also be doing other things during this time to deepen faith and to make better leaders.

The Edge is open to all students, but may not be the best fit for everyone. If a student does not want to serve or take their faith to the next level, the Edge is not for them. There will be plenty of chances to get involved in other events.

This year’s Edge will be $10.00 per student. It will happen on Saturday April 25 and very limited on space. The event will begin at 4 pm and wrap-up at 10 pm. Sign-ups for the Edge will be open until Sunday, April 19 or when capacity is reached. In other words, if a person wants to be on the Edge team, sign-up fast!
