Lent...

Lent is a time during the year Christians traditionally fast from something the 40 days leading up to Easter. By sacrificing something we desire, we confess that God is our greater desire. And in doing so we draw nearer to Christ.

Just a week ago we conveyed the idea to our middle school students and challenged them to participate in Lent this season. And they jumped in with both feet! Below are just a few of the "desires" being fasted from this Lent:

sodas
iPods
chocolate
texting
make-up
candy
facebook (gasp)
Sonic
boys/girls
computers
video games
phones
energy drinks
Glee
lip gloss
coffee
cookies
electronics

If you know a student participating, take time to encourage and pray for them. It can be a challenge! And if you are participating...hang in there! And remember by sacrificing one thing it can open you to pray, rest, practice solitude, read Scripture, and worship by proclaiming God as your Greater Desire!
