Today was a fantastic day of serving and learning. Our team arrived at the Dorcas House ready to work. The students were initially divided into three different mission teams.
Team 1 began reorganizing and sanitizing the on-site childcare center. The younger children of the Dorcas House are enrolled in daycare while their mothers find employment to help start fresh in life. Team 2 tackled the inside and outside food pantries. The pantries needed to be organized according to types of food along with cleaning the areas extremely well. Team 3 went into the laundry area. This involved cleaning, reorganizing, and folding linens.
A little further into the day we borrowed various team members to launch a couple of new projects. Some students began painting upstairs in the dorms, while others worked in the kitchen doing dishes and preparing lunch.
After a few hours of steady work, it was time for lunch. Our students spread out, visited, and shared a meal with the moms and kids in residence. After lunch, a couple of students stayed back to clean the dining hall and kitchen. The rest of the team played whiffleball, football, board games, and read stories with the kids.
In the afternoon, our group headed over to the Union Rescue Bargain Center. The Dorcas House is an arm of the Union Rescue Mission, which benefits from the Bargain Center's sales. Each student bought at least one item to help support the mission. Our group returned from to the hotel, cleaned up, and got ready to grab dinner.
After dinner, we caught a Travelers' game. The Travs put it to the Wichita Wranglers. After the game, it was time for our Debriefing. We talked about the day and prayed. We also explored four key passages of Scriptures: James 1:27, Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:18-20, and Matthew 22:37-40. The verses are our heartbeat and explain why we do what we do. Tomorrow is our last day. Please pray for a continuing impact as we return to the Dorcas House.
